Growing up in the '60's I have always feared the effects of LSD and other psychedelics. I took lesser things, such as grass, hash, poppers, and the like. Yet, somehow I think I must have a lot of that substance you describe in my brain because I am always having consciousness-expanding things happening to me. It could be the profound beauty of a piece of art or nature. It could be experiencing music with many people and feeling the oneness of us all. It could be seeing a film or reading a book and finding an insight that goes all the way down to my core. It just happens to me. I feel the oneness, the universal love, and the profound insights that help me to understand myself and the world we live in. I prefer to have these natural experiences because they occur when I am emotionally ready to have them and I don't have to be afraid of blasting into my being and coming out damaged. I speak here for myself. I just hope that the new research will have guardrails to prevent the kinds of things that happened in the '60s with so many abuses and bad trips. I don't think laypeople should take these drugs without any kind of expert supervision. Like shamans, the experts will need to guide people carefully and weed out people who may be too vulnerable. Fascinating interview. I must have high levels of that substance because I keep tripping on life. Not hallucinations, not voices, not creatures. Just profound and beautiful insights that make me happy.
