My laptop computer is absolutely a focal thing. I get to touch base with so many folks that I never would have know, had I not met them through e-mails and Facebook. My computer keeps me connected with peopl--something I cannot do physically anymore.
Thanks for the comment Billie! Yes, social media, mobile phones etc. are such an interesting phenomenon. Of course they're not the same as sitting across a table from someone, but equally they allow for human connections that wouldn't exist or be sustained otherwise. So I wonder if they're part device, part focal thing.
