AMEN! I think creating a machine that would achieve human conciousness is terrifying. We cannot allow that to happen.

It's scary and now we have a techno-man given all this power! I think of how much sci-fi there is about mutant machines gone wild and I just cannot favor this development. There was only ONE sci-fi that I ever read that was sympathetic to androids.

Thanks Dion. I agree with what you say about animals here, although I think it would be a different thing with AI. With the latter we would be knowingly making something that only appears sentient. But once such things are out there in the world it's easy to imagine people starting to see them as genuinely sentient.
