As a child of the 60s, I remember there being an awful lot of people who messed up their minds with psychedelic substances. And there was nothing that they ever discovered that doesn't already exist in our mental universe. Enlightenment can take many forms; we are not all bodhissatvas and ingesting chemicals will not change that. As the zen saying sort-of goes: Eat, sleep, work, get enlightened, eat, sleep, work. We still have to live our lives. It is hoped we can learn to be good to all existing creatures (including humans) and develop a profound respect for Nature.
