Regarding classic theism, I didn't see the distinction that Dr. Tartaglia made to be that clear. The great challenge of presenting a non theistic idealism is to make clear how a purely phenomenal consciousness (such as the kind posited by Kastrup and Schopenhauer) could be responsible for the coherence of the universe, the stability of so called "laws of nature."

But I'm more interested in this question about the supernatural. The great limitation of almost all attempts today to craft a "new" idealism" is the limited understanding of Consciousness. It seems as if it's always a simple twofold distinction - there's the consciousness manifest as the material universe, and the immaterial, universal consciousness.

IN striking contrast, in the Kabbalah, Tantra, Vedanta, Sufism and many other traditions, you have:

physical consciousness

pranic (chi, Ki, "life") consciousness

mental consciousness

some sort of intelligence infinitely beyond the mind

and then some version of Sat-Chit-Ananda.

Although it is challenging reading, I think Orthodox Christian (a self described Vedantic Christian) theologian David Bentley Hart, in "The Experience of God," shows how this understanding of Sat-Chit-Ananda (translated into English as the subtitle of the book: "Existence, Consciousness, Bliss") is a description that is common to all theistic traditions, East and West (even including Mahayana Buddhism).

Let's take a specific example. it is said in most traditions (and verified by parapsychological research) that many events that occur on the material plane have their origin in subtle planes.

Now, does this refer to anything supernatural? if the subtle pranic, mental and even supra mental planes are a natural part of the universe, then what has happened is we have confused supra-material for super natural.

In these traditional metaphysical accounts, what is truly "supernatural" is the transcendent Consciousness, the Silence or infinite Stillness (which can be known directly in contemplative practice) which underlies ALL the "natural" planes of existence.

Paradoxically, both the materialist and the idealist forms co-exist. Love, for example, has both. There is the hormonal attraction. There is the evolutionary instinct to procreate. And then there is the emotional component. The spiritual force that brings lovers together. Nothing is all that binary.
